The Basilica School of St. Mary Star of the Sea recently announced the appointment of its new principal, Robert Wright.

Wright came to The Basilica School from John Paul II Catholic High School in Tallahassee, where he had served as a teacher, coach and administrator since 2006.

He also served as youth director at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More since 2005.

Wright holds a Bachelor of Science in social science education from Florida State University .

In 2012, he received his master's in educational leadership and administration from the University of Dayton.

Wright is the father of three young children. His wife, Jessica, is a sixth-generation Conch who is happy to be back in Key West.

While Wright says that he is adjusting to life "on a rock," he is overjoyed to be at the service of The Basilica School and the faith community that supports it.

"I desire with my whole heart to live in obedience to the will of God and strive to live out the Gospel in my daily life," Wright said.

"I have been led to this particular ministry, Catholic education, through much discernment and grace.

"I envision a school culture that respects the dignity of every human person and inspires greatness in each young life. I look forward to bringing this vision to The Basilica School this fall."

Wright takes over from former Principal Elizabeth Harris, who held the position for five years during her three decade-career at the school.
