Four Key West commissioners were taking Mayor Craig Cates to task at tonight's City Commission meeting for his plans to build a 24-hour homeless shelter.
Commissioner Mark Rossi doesn't want the shelter placed at the old Easter Seals property on Stock Island, as current plans called for. Commissioner Billy Wardlow said an assisted-living facility is more important than a homeless shelter.
City Manager Bob Vitas said workshops on "site selection" for a homeless shelter will be held.
Cates stressed that something must be done.
"We can't stick our heads in the sand" on the homeless problem, he said.
