Lawrencio R. Rodriguez Jr. (Robbie) passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, after a long courageous battle with lung cancer at his home in Miami.

Born in Key West on July 21, 1961, Robbie is survived by his father, Larry Rodriguez Sr. (Gwen); mother, Sandra Neal (Tom); wife, Mercedes Suarez; sister, Louanna Williams (David); children, Jason Rodriguez, Sarah Pierce, Melissa (Jason) Gutierrez, Melanie Sanchez and Nikolas Pascual; five grandchildren; niece Samantha Williams; and nephew Darrell Williams.

He was a graduate of Key West High School and Florida International University. He was a social studies teacher at Lamar Louis Curry Middle School, Miami, Fla.

He was chosen as Teacher of the Year for 2012-13. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a supporter of the students and their sports programs. He and his wife, Mercedes, were active participants in their church.

Services were 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the Christ Fellowship Church, 8900 SW 168 St., Miami, Fla. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at the family plot on Second Avenue at the city cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
