Keys Energy warns of scam
Keys Energy Services (KEYS) reminds residents to beware of a local scam targeting utility customers.
The scammers call customers and say their home or business is scheduled to be disconnected for nonpayment, and that they must wire the payment to a certain account, which is not legitimate.
"If customers are unsure of the authenticity of a call and need to verify its legitimacy, they should contact KEYS at 305-295-1000 and ask to speak with a customer services representative," said Keys Energy CEO and General Manager Lynne Tejeda. The public utility said the scam has targeted several local businesses over the past several months.
BIG PINE KEY
Animals blessed on Sunday
All creatures great and small are invited to the annual Blessing of the Animals at St. Francis in the Keys Church this Sunday at the 8:30 a.m. service. It's tradionally celebrated the Sunday after the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.
Pets of all kinds will be blessed and given a St. Francis medallion. The Rev. Chris Todd will preach about how dogs can teach us to be better people. Food for people and pets will be served afterward.
St. Francis is at 1600 Key Deer Blvd., a mile and a half from the only stoplight on Big Pine Key. It's the church with the red doors in the woods just south of Watson Boulevard. For more information, visit stfrancisinthekeys.org, or its Facebook page, or call 305-872-2547.
