Missing boater's body found by Coast Guard

KEY WEST: A Coast Guard crew Sunday morning found the body of a boater reported missing this weekend after her dinghy was found washed up on an offshore island.

Angela Taylor, 36, of Key West, who lived on a boat moored near Wisteria Island, was found at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Boca Grande Channel.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Office are investigating and an autopsy was scheduled to determine cause of death.

Taylor was last seen alive at about 1 a.m. Saturday by her boyfriend as she gave him a ride back to his own boat, which is moored about 100 yards away, the Sheriff's Office said Sunday.

The boyfriend told Detectives Manny Cuervo and Rosa DiGiovanni that the two of them had been at a party drinking from Friday night until early Saturday.

The pair left the party and returned to his boat in her dinghy because the boyfriend's dinghy was out of gas, deputies said. Once on the dinghy, the couple argued and she left his boat and took off in her dinghy at about 1:30 a.m., the boyfriend told investigators.

On Saturday morning, a Good Samaritan discovered a dinghy washed up near Man Key and called the Coast Guard, which ran the Florida numbers on the dinghy and came up with the owner's name, Taylor. Coast Guardsmen checked Taylor's moored boat but found it empty, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin.
