Nov. 17, 1933 to Oct. 9, 2013

Joseph Paul Ladd Jr., 79, a lifetime resident of Key West, Fla., passed away unexpectedly from an injury Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.

Joseph leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Timothy Hertzog; grandchildren Christopher T. and Joseph P. Hertzog; great-granddaughter Priscilla Hertzog; niece Karen Kelley; sister-in-law Florence (William) Ladd; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his mother and father, Edith Hilton Ladd and Joseph P. Ladd Sr.; his brother William Ladd Sr.; and his sister Barbara Roberts.

Joseph served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and 30 years in the public works department at Boca Chica Naval Air Station. He loved to garden and paint portraits of people he liked. He loved his family and will be forever missed.

There will be a viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., both at Castillo & Thurston's Key West Mortuary, 328 Truman Ave., Key West. Pastor Ernie DeLoach will officiate. After the service, Joseph will be laid to rest with military honors following a burial procession to Southern Keys Cemetery, 258 Avenue A, Big Coppitt Key.
