Clerks cited for alcohol sales

A Sheriff's Office sweep of 20 businesses that sell alcohol in the Lower Keys ended with two cashiers being cited for serving minors.

Daniel E. Smith, 23, of the Kickin' Back Food Mart on Cudjoe Key, and Rosa Bundy Gilday, 31, a cashier at the Walgreens on Big Pine Key, both reportedly sold alcohol to underage customers on Friday, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin said.Both were given notices to appear before a Monroe County judge.

The violations can carry up to 60 days in jail, a $500 fine plus $350 in law enforcement costs.


Revelers reminded of rules

The city has released a few reminders for revelers as the annual Fantasy Fest opened this weekend.

Public nudity is prohibited in Key West, city spokeswoman Alyson Crean said, and the law includes women's exposed breasts.

"Breasts painted with body paint will only be considered as covered within the Fantasy Zone," Crean said. "Body paint cannot be applied in public; it must be applied in an enclosed area, out of the public view. Sex acts in public are absolutely prohibited."

The "Fantasy Zone" includes all of Duval Street and its cross streets between Whitehead and Simonton streets.


New voter form due Oct. 24

New statewide voter registration applications will hit the public Oct. 24 but the old forms will still be accepted, said Monroe County Supervisor of Elections Joyce Griffin on Friday.

Griffin noted that the new forms ask for an email address but it is not required in order to register to vote.

"If you add an email address, it will be open to the public," Griffin said.

To vote or change party affiliation in the Aug. 26, 2014 primary election, people must register by July 28, 2014.

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4, 2014 General Election is Oct. 6, 2014.
