Clothes, wallet lost at bar

A 65-year-old Key West man told police that someone swiped his wallet and his clothes while he was drinking at the island's clothing-optional rooftop bar over the weekend.

He had left his clothes and personal belongings unattended while drinking at the Garden of Eden, 224 Duval St., police reported Wednesday.

The local said he lost $95 in cash, a black wallet and three bank checks along with his shorts, shirt and belt.

He went to the police department Monday morning to file a stolen property report "for fear of fraud and identity theft," the report said.

Watercraft riders' trial set

Two Cuban-born men on personal watercraft arrested last month after fleeing from a Coast Guard cutter 30 miles south of Key West will go to trial Dec. 2, according to federal court records.

Antonio Rodriguez, a U.S. citizen, and Ricardo Gonzalez-Solorzano, a legal resident, were indicted on the charge of failure to stop for the Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell on Sept. 27 after a 45-minute chase in the Gulf Stream.

The personal watercrafts outfitted with GPS as well as extra drinking water and gas cans when they finally stopped, according to the Coast Guard.

Duval St. cell thieves sought

Key West Police detectives are looking for a couple to question in connection with the recent thefts of iPhones from bars along the lower part of Duval Street.

Reviews of surveillance video show that the female suspect is heavyset and taller than her male counterpart, said police spokeswoman Alyson Crean on Wednesday.

"They are thought to be responsible for several phone thefts over the summer as well," Crean said.

Anyone who knows the couple, or has any information about the thefts, is asked to call detectives at 305-809-1015, or can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-346-TIPS.
