Doreen Vera Carlson

May 26, 1920 - Sept 20, 2013

Doreen Vera Carlson passed away peacefully at her home in Key West at the age of 93.

Originally from England, Doreen served in the Woman's Land Army during World War II and lived in California for 50 years before moving to Key West in 2001.

The cherished wife of the late Frank "Red" Carlson, she is survived by son Dean Carlson and his partner, Paul Hayes and daughter, Joyce Heels and her husband, Mark, all of Key West; her granddaughter Heather Heels of New York City, N.Y.; her niece, Dorien Putman and her husband Karl, of Marshalltown, Iowa.

Her spirit and compassion embodied the Key West sentiment of "One Human Family." She will be deeply missed by all those who were lucky enough to experience the immense love she shared with the world.

A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Florida Keys SPCA Building Fund in honor of her love of animals.
