Mary Karen Gladding

1952 - 2013

Mary Karen Gladding, 60, of Sanford, Fla., passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013. Mary was born on October 17, 1952, in Bethesda, Md. As the daughter of a career U.S. Navy Senior Chief, she lived in many duty stations around the world. Mary graduated from high school in Rota, Spain, before moving to Key West in 1970. Mary lived in Key West, Fla., from 1970 to 2012, working as a commercial fisherman alongside her husband aboard their boat the Alexis M. She was an avid collector and amateur photographer who loved capturing images of sunsets and nature's beauty. One of her greatest joys were her dogs Woo Woo, Rusty, and Morgan. Mary was one of the kindest people you will ever meet and always had a helping hand for others. Her generous nature, along with her loving heart and spirit, resonated with all who knew her. Mary put others ahead of herself and never closed a conversation without an "I love you." She will forever be in our hearts and fondest memories. Our family was blessed to have her in our lives.

Mary was a beautiful daughter, sister, aunt and sister-in law to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter Gladding and her father Alvin W. Fritz. Mary is survived by her mother, Josephine Fritz; brother, John Fritz of San Antonio, Texas; sisters Jean Eckles of Hopkinsville, Ky., Donna Yoxheimer of Woodland Park, Colo., and Alexis Angelini of San Diego, Calif.
