HAPPENINGS AT BIG PINE ACADEMY

• Students and parents gathered with Big Pine Academy (BPA) teacher Jennifer Sullivan on Saturday, Oct. 12, for a car wash fundraiser. The event raised nearly $400, all of which will go towards the Big Pine Academy Middle School's Edible Garden.

Students are planning to purchase a new wheelbarrow as well as some new varieties of tropical fruit trees to plant. Donations and edible plants and trees are still needed at Big Pine Academy (especially bananas.) Anyone able to help is asked to contact Sullivan at the school.

• A surprise lunch was provided for BPA staff from the Parent Teachers Organization, on Oct. 23, 2013, along with a note stating, "The PTO is providing lunch today; Thank you for all you do for our children."Another PTO fundraiser was held Oct. 23 at Boondocks. The event featured games, crafts, a costume parade and costume contest. Prizes were given to the top two costumes in three different age categories.

• The school has begun a history project entitled "Colonial Kids."

The students and teachers are researching all aspects of the Colonists each afternoon. Seven groups of three, are working together to gather information for their presentations, which will take place on Nov. 22.

On that day the children will be expected to come dressed as a Colonist, so students are advised to begin thinking about a costume now. Research began in late October.

On Nov. 22, the class will be treated to a Colonial kids breakfast, with the presentations to follow.
