William Rinehart Meredith II
William Rinehart Meredith II, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at The Hearth in Avon, Ind. Born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 26, 1930, he was the son of the late William R. Meredith and the late Mildred Jackson Meredith.
He lived in Lexington, Ky. from 1954 to 1961; Washington, D.C. from 1961 to 1973; Harrodsburg, Ky., including Beaumont Avenue and Salt River Bottom Farm (formerly owned by descendents of the Kyle and Eli Lilly families) from 1973 to 1995; and Key West, Fla., from 1995.
He attended Berea Foundation School, University of Kentucky and American University Washington College of Law in Washington D.C., graduating in May 1965 with a juris doctorate.
His military service was as an Air Force Radio Intercept Operator (RIO) connected with the Security Service involved with military intelligence. He served in Texas, Mississippi, Japan and Korea for seven months during the Korean War in 1952 and 1953.
His professional history includes work as a trust officer with the Security Trust Co., and vice president and trust officer with the American Security and Trust Co. in Washington D.C. He also practiced law in Harrodsburg, Ky., and was the Republican candidate for the U.S. Congress 6th District of Kentucky in the spring of 1972.
He was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and served as Bishop's Warden for several years. He was involved with the creation and operation of a child care center in addition to the Cardinal Meadow Apartments for the elderly.
Memories are left with many including a special friend, Sheri Ann Scott, a shih-tzu named "Oreo," children William R. (Tracy) of Apex, N.C. and Sarah "Shelley" Dangerfield Meredith of Nashville, Tenn.
e had four grandchildren, Ella, Emory, Addie and Liam; and sisters Mary Jane Allen of Avon, Ind., and Hope Ann Lowe of Lexington, Ky.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at the St. Philip's Episcopal Church by Rev. Peter Doddema followed by burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, Ky. A Life Celebration was held Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Salt River Bottom Farm, Harrodsburg, Ky.
