'Messiah' is set for Dec. 1

The 31st annual performance of Handel's 'Messiah' at the Key West United Methodist Church is set for 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1 and is a benefit for the United Methodist Committee on Relief's work to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, said spokesman Dean Walters.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Call 305-849-1474 for details. Singers who want to participate need to make the same day rehearsal from 2 to 5 p.m. and arrive by 1:45 p.m.

AIDS Help creates new event

The inaugural "Deck the Halls" fundraiser for AIDS Help, Inc., set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at La Te Da, 1125 Duval St., combines the past "Tree of Hope" and "Share the Wreath" into one night of celebration.

More than 30 wreaths, made by local artists and "VIPs," will be auctioned off starting at 7 p.m., along with ornaments and baked goods. Attendees may place personal notes on the giant La Te Da Yule tree for $5 each.

Free classes held at library

The Key West branch of the Monroe County Library is now accepting registrations for its free Thursday morning computer classes in December. The classes are aimed at beginners and will focus on Microsoft Word. Space is limited, so registration is required.

Classes start at 10 a.m. and will be held on Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19. There will be no class Dec. 26.
