Officials examine more dead whales
11 carcasses at Snipe Point are likely part of Everglades stranding

Federal fishery managers conducted necropsies Monday on 11 dead pilot whales found Sunday on Snipe Point.

The whales are presumed to be part of a larger pod that beached themselves in the shallows of the Everglades last week. The whales were "high and dry" on the sandbar, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Superintendent Sean Morton said.
