Zdenek "Denny" Hrabec, age 44, passed away at his home in Key West on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, with his family by his side.

He was born at Teplice, Czechoslovakia, on Dec. 29, 1968, to Zdenek and Bozena Hrabec. Denny left the Czech Republic following the political revolution in 1990, first settling in Canada.

During his travels he discovered Key West, where he worked for Dos Lobos Restaurant. He returned to the Czech Republic several times to complete his education, graduating from Grand Technical Institute in 1995. During his studies he met Ivona Likavcova, and they were married in Slovakia on Aug. 29, 1998.

Returning to Key West in 1996, Denny began working for Habibi Corp. as manager of the Lost Weekend Liquor Store, then office manager, and in 1998 became general manager of the complex including the Bull & Whistle Bar, and the Garden of Eden.

Denny is survived by his wife, Ivona; three children, Tomas, Denisa and Filip of Key West; his mother, Bozena Hrabec; a brother, Jarolsav; and a sister, Eva of Czechoslovakia.

Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home, 418 Simonton St., Key West, Fla. A Mass will follow 3 p.m. at The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
