2 men, dog rescued after fire

A good Samaritan rescued two men and a dog who fled a boat fire in a dinghy Thursday afternoon, according to a Coast Guard press release. There were no injuries.

The witness, who picked up the trio, reportedly saw them leave a flame-engulfed boat 8 miles southwest of Marquesas Keys. The Key West Coast Guard diverted the cutter Nantucket and sent out a small crew. The cutter embarked the three, who later boarded the small boat to Key West.

The men said the fire ignited in the engine room and quickly spread through the boat before it sank.
