April 22, 1954 to November 29, 2013

"The angels stood behind her bed guarding her every breath; when her breath began to fade, the angels hovered above her, gently lifting her spirit into the heavenly hands of our loving God."

On Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, our beloved Flo, 59, passed away peacefully with family by her side after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Key West, Fla., the family moved between Texas and Louisiana while her dad was in the service, eventually settling in Key West, where Flo graduated from Key West High School in 1972.

Flo soon pursued her passion for jewelry design, leading her to a 25-year career working with prominent local jeweler Whitfield Jack. There she co-designed and handcrafted nautical-themed jewelry reflecting her love for the ocean.

She married her beloved husband of 18 years, Doug Capas, and they shared a wonderful life together residing in Key West. Flo enjoyed everything outdoors, with many weekends spent on the water, boating, snorkeling and wandering the sand flats beachcombing for seashells. Vacationing in the beautiful mountains of Montana and Wyoming while visiting with her son, Daniel, driving together as a family through the national parks of the great West, is what Flo loved the most. At home, she so adored her kitty-cat, Alex, and loved spending time in her garden with her many plants, orchids and roses. She was also an accomplished artist: Her many paintings are of colorful tropical landscapes and detailed portraits of people.

Flo was a genuine, caring and loving person who was so very devoted to her family. In 2006, she donated a kidney to her nephew Richard, who is enjoying a healthy, happy life today.

Her beautiful smile and infectious laugh will be missed by the many fabulous and wonderful friends she was so fortunate to have in her life. She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, sister and friend. She was truly a lovely person.

Surviving is her husband, Doug Capas of Key West; her son, Daniel Rosasco of Bozeman, Mont., whom she loved dearly; brothers Frank (Maria) Ratcliff, Dave (Janet) Ratcliff of Key West, Ken (Nancy) Ratcliff of Tampa, Fla.; sister Carol (Vance) Callahan of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and brothers-in-law Brad (Mary) Capas, Jeff (Kathy) Capas and Ray Capas.

Flo is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much: Richard, Sophia, Frankie, Kristina and Jack Ratcliff, Shawn Morales, Michaella, Jillian, Mallory and Ryan (Julie) Capas; and great-niece and -nephews Asia, Damian and Ben. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary Ratcliff, and nephew John T. Davila.

Flo's wishes were for no services, and in lieu of flowers for donations to be sent to the American Cancer Society. But we know she would have wanted to thank everyone who kept her in their thoughts and prayers. The family would like to thank everyone at Lower Keys Medical Center, Key West Health and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of the Florida Keys for their kind and wonderful care of Flo.

Castillo & Thurston's Key West Mortuary was entrusted with all arrangements.

Our sweet angel now lives amongst us every day, sitting next to us and comforting us. We love and miss you, Floey.
