3 teens arrested for burglaries

Sheriff's deputies early Sunday arrested three Upper Keys teens after reportedly finding them burglarizing cars on Marine Avenue in Key Largo.

A woman called the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 2 a.m. Sunday saying she had seen four teen boys raiding her unlocked SUV and taking off with her purse, said sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin.

The caller described the suspects and deputies arrived in time to recover the woman's purse, which reportedly was still in one of the boy's hands, and other stolen goods.

All three suspects, ages 17, 16 and 15, face burglary and theft charges.

City collects Christmas trees

Waste Management will be collecting Christmas trees as part of residents' yard waste collection this year, according to Solid Waste Coordinator Will Thompson.

"Trees may be placed at the curb alongside your regular yard waste, trash, and recycling containers," said Thompson. "They do not have to be broken up or placed in containers, but they need to be free of any ornaments and tinsel. Otherwise they will be collected with the trash."
