TAVERNIER -- Florida gubernatorial candidate Nan Rich will speak at the Upper Keys Democrats' "2014 Kickoff" social, scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Florida Keys Elks Lodge 1872, mile marker 92.6, bayside.

All registered Democrats and Progressives are invited.

Rich served as a Florida senator from 2004 to 2012 and was the Senate minority leader in 2010. From 2000 to 2004, she served in the Florida House of Representatives.

Sheriff to speak

KEY LARGO -- Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay will speak to members of Fair Share for Key Largo at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Key Largo Lions Club, near mile marker 99.4, oceanside.

Ramsay will discuss public safety and address recent bicycle accidents involving cars and trucks on the bike path, one resulting in the death of a local woman.
