Roe v. Wade decision marked

The Key West chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) will hold a demonstration from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday outside the federal courthouse to mark the 41st anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe vs. Wade that legalized abortion.

The group will meet outside the Sidney Aronovitz United States Courthouse, 301 Simonton St., at the corner of Caroline Street.

Two crashes Sunday slow U.S. 1

Two crashes Sunday afternoon on U.S.1 sent three people to hospitals, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Driver Jatin Anadkat, 67, and passenger Rekha Anadkat, 66, of Pleasanton, Calif., were taken to Fishermen's Hospital at 3 p.m. after their car struck another vehicle driven by Alejandro Dicue, 19, of Hialeah, at Mile Marker 69.

Thirty minutes later, Mauricio Guerra, 41, of Miami lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown off at Mile Marker 92. He was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center.


Man charged in car burglaries

A man accused of burglarizing three vehicles in November and December was arrested Friday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Timirau Conrado, 30, of Marathon was jailed on suspicion of three counts of burglary and three counts of theft in connection with tools and GPS devices swiped from vehicles.

Deputies found some of the stolen items at a pawn shop, which led them to Conrado, reports say. Conrado admitted to the thefts when questioned, deputies said. He was taken to the county jail in Marathon.
