On January 9, 2014 Walter Yarbrough Sr., 92, passed from this world to the next peacefully at his home in Cudjoe Key, Florida.

A lifelong advocate for the disadvantaged, Walter served as President of the Albany Inter-racial Council and Arbor Hill Community Center in his home town of Albany, New York. He also served as County Vice Commander of V.F.W. post 1257, was heavily involved with the Urban League, the Lions Club, and was a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church of New York.

He fought tirelessly against segregation in business, social organizations and housing, helping to lead the way in Albanys real estate redline busting during the 1960's.

He spent 62 years happily married to his beloved wife Doris Biles Yarbrough who preceded him to Paradise on January 6, 2006, and he is now reunited with her and their daughter Debra who passed from us unexpectedly in 2012. He is survived by his sons, Walter Jr. and Richard, his loving daughter-in-law Susan, his devoted son-in-law Nathan Friends, and his grandchildren Stephanie, Jason, and David and a host of loved ones and friends.

With his passing the world has lost one of its quiet heroes. He will be sorely missed.
