50 YEARS AGO:

Cobo Pharmacy, Lionel M. Cobo owner, was located at 937 Fleming St.

The Key West City Commission named Armando Perez Jr. as acting police chief to replace George Gomez, who resigned.

The State Road Department stated it would not build a bridge to No Name Key until it had been approved by the Monroe County Commission.

Airman First Class Rodney Birkett made the honor roll in his studies of Air Force communications. Before he entered the service, Birkett was staff photographer for The Key West Citizen.

Fifty-five allied student officers from the U.S. Army Special Warfare School, Fort Bragg, N.C. visited the Key West military for a tour.

Hugh A. Woodward died at resident of his daughter Mrs. Ida Barron. One son, famed historian Dr. C. Vann Woodward, also survived him.

Andros "TaTa" Marrero Jr. died at the age of 73.

George W. Barber died at the Veterans Hospital in Coral Gables.
