Teen Women's Conference

The Domestic Abuse Shelter of the Florida Keys will host its free annual Teen Women's Conference from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Holiday Inn Key Largo, Key Largo.

A continental breakfast will be offered at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Girls aged 13 through 18 are welcome to attend. Topics will include self-esteem, habits of highly successful teens, elements of a healthy friendship/relationship and the shelter's signature program, teen dating violence.

Transportation will be made available for teens interested in attending from Key West and the lower and middle Keys. For information call 305-498-8779.


Free All-County Band concert

The band directors of Monroe County schools invite the public to the free annual All-County Band Concert taking place at 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at Marathon Middle/High School, 350 Sombrero Beach Rd., Marathon.

The concert will be the polished product of 148 students from Horace O'Bryant School, Key Largo School, Plantation Key School, Sugarloaf School, Marathon Middle/High School, Coral Shores High School, and Key West High School. This is the largest collaborative Monroe County School District musical production of the year with students learning challenging and engaging music literature under the direction of two of the best music teachers in the state.

Garden Club meets

The Key West Garden Club meets the first Thursday of every month at the West Martello Tower, 1100 Atlantic Blvd., on Higgs Beach.

The speaker is Lynne Bentley-Kemp, who will present the lecture "Tips on Taking Beautiful Pictures of Plants and Flowers."

A nonprofit, the club is one of the island's last free tourist attractions, open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except for New Year's Day. Plants are donated and maintained by volunteers.
