• Four Cuban fishing vessels caught fishing in U.S. territorial waters near the Dry Tortugas were brought to Key West by the Coast Guard Cutters Ariadne, Cape Starr and Cape Knox.

• Gloria Strassner was crowned Queen of Old Island Days at the Coronation Ball in the Community Center.

• W. Curry Harris was installed as president of the Monroe County Bar Association by Judge Thomas Barkbull of the Third District Appellate Court.
