KEY LARGO - The Monroe County Commission is expected to approve spending a little over a $1 million to help pay for a shared-use path along the bayside of U.S. 1 from mile marker 100 to 106.
The total cost of the project will be $2,106,000 with the rest of the money paid for by the Florida Department of Transportation.
The asphalt path will be 10 feet wide and construction is expected to take nine to 10 months. Part of the construction will include replacing mailboxes, replanting sod and installing bicycle railings.
The commission is expected to approve the money at its 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, meeting at Murray E. Nelson Government Center.
