Texas senator to speak

Democrat Wendy Davis, the Texas state senator running for governor, will speak at a fundraiser set for 5 p.m. Thursday at Louie's Backyard, 700 Waddell St.

Ticket levels are $100, $500 and $1,000.

Last June, Davis held an 11-hour-long filibuster to block a senate bill that included more restrictive abortion regulations for Texas.

Davis, an attorney from Fort Worth, faces Republican Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott in the Nov. 4 election.

Crafts market is Sunday

The Key West Artisan Market is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the parking lot of The Restaurant Store, Eaton St., 1111 Eaton St.

Artists, craftspeople, writers will attend the event, where items on sale include baked goods, seafood, fresh produce, pickles and craft-brewed beer. Attendees are asked to bring their own shopping bags. Parking available at Strunk Ace Hardware. Call 305-294-7994 for more information.

The monthly festival is free.

Retrieve trash cans on time

The city recently reminded residents that local law requires all trash, recycling and yard waste containers be placed out for collection no earlier than 4 p.m. the night before the scheduled collection day.

Containers must be removed from the street no later than 8 p.m. the day of collection. This includes yard waste containers filled by commercial landscapers.

Cans and carts left streetside become a public safety threat, city staff said. For information, contact Will Thompson at 305-809-3776 or
