Texas senator to speak

Democrat Wendy Davis, the Texas state senator running for governor, will speak at a fundraiser set for 5 p.m. Thursday at Louie's Backyard, 700 Waddell St.

Ticket levels are $100, $500 and $1,000.

Last June, Davis held an 11-hour-long filibuster to block a senate bill that included more restrictive abortion regulations for Texas.

Davis, an attorney from Fort Worth, faces Republican Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott in the Nov. 4 election.

Retrieve trash cans on time

The city recently reminded residents that local law requires all trash, recycling and yard waste containers be placed out for collection no earlier than 4 p.m. the night before the scheduled collection day.

Containers must be removed from the street no later than 8 p.m. the day of collection. This includes yard waste containers filled by commercial landscapers.

Cans and carts left streetside become a public safety threat, city staff said. For information, contact Will Thompson at 305-809-3776 or wthompson@keywestcity.com
