FKCC hosts open houses

Florida Keys Community College invites prospective students to three Open House events at its three learning centers in the Lower, Middle and Upper Keys.

The events will take place at the following FKCC campus locations, dates and times:

Key West campus: 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Middle Keys Center: 4 p.m. April 3

Upper Keys Center: 4 p.m. April 10

The regular $30 college application fee will be waived for those who submit an application during one of the above listed events. To RSVP for an Open House, call 305-809-3271 or email studentoutreach@fkcc.edu so organizers have an idea of how many people will attend.


Comp plan workshop

Key West city officials will host a public workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 3 at the Harvey Government Center on Truman Avenue in Key West to discuss proposed updates to the city's comprehensive plan.

Several aspects of the plan are being reviewed and updated, including the port, historic preservation and the local water supply. Also, staff is proposing amendments to address climate change.

Apply for discount by Monday

Enrollment for the Keys Energy Services' (KEYS) discount program is now open for qualifying senior citizens or disabled American veterans who are residential utility customers. Customers who have previously participated in the program must re-qualify. Once qualified, customers will receive a $9.53 discount on their monthly energy bills in 2014.

Application forms are available at KEYS' offices at 1001 James St., Key West, by calling 305-295-1090 to have one mailed or online at keysenergy.com/forms/SrCitizenDiscountApp.pdf

All applications for the discount must be completed, signed and returned to KEYS by Monday.
