Man jailed after fight

A 26-year-old homeless man was jailed Monday after deputies say he beat up a 50-year-old drinking buddy.

Justin Marlowe of Islamorada and an older man were drinking Sunday night and into the morning at Hog Heaven Sports Bar when they left at 3 a.m., the sheriff's office reported.

The victim was taken to Mariner's Hospital, where doctors said he needed treatment in Miami for facial fractures, Deputy Becky Herrin said.


Road closed for production

Television crews working on Card Sound Road will cause minor delays for motorists Thursday on the secondary route from Florida City to Key Largo.

The untitled show that stars Kyle Chandler and Sissy Spacek is set to start shooting near Alabama Jacks between 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday with one lane of the two-lane road closed for production.

Delays up to 10 minutes are anticipated. Motorists are advised to use the 18-mile stretch on Thursday to avoid delays.


Panel seeks 2 members

The volunteer Citizen Review Board is seeking two new members for four-year terms.

Members must be residents, registered voters and have a local civic group write a letter of nomination.

City commissioners make the final decisions. Applications are available on the city's website,, and are due to the board's executive director Sue Srch by 5 p.m. May 16.
