KEYS seeks committee member

Keys Energy Services (KEYS) has an opening on its Advisory Committee for District Three, which serves Shark Key to the Sugarloaf Key. Advisory Committee applications are available in the main lobby of KEYS' Service building at 1001 James St., or can be requested electronically by emailing KEYS' Executive Assistant Edee Delph at Edee.Delph@KeysEnergy.com.

Applications must be completed and returned by noon April 11.

The Advisory Community members represent five districts: Key West to Stock Island (District One); Key Haven to Big Coppitt (District Two); Shark Key to Sugarloaf Key (District Three); Cudjoe Key to the Torch Keys (District Four); and Big Pine Key to Seven-Mile Bridge (District Five).

The utility board will appoint the District Three representative during a regular meeting on April 23.

UPPER KEYS

Netflix filming slows traffic

Video production for the new KZK/Netflix/Sony television series taking place Monday and Tuesday is expected to cause short delays for Upper Keys motorists.

Beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, 12 hours of shooting are anticipated between Mile Markers 74 and 92. The same day, beginning at 8 a.m., a 17-hour road closure is scheduled for the Old Highway, on the southwestern end of Plantation Key behind Theater of the Sea.

On Tuesday, Mile Markers 77 through 90 are the region for shooting from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Delays up to 10 minutes are anticipated. Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies are to aid traffic control.

Broadcast production is subject to changes due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Scholarship applications

The Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen's Association has its scholarship application available online for college-bound students in Monroe County high schools.

Interested students can check with career counselors, or download a copy from www.fkcfa.org/scholarships1.

Funds were raised from the sale of a cookbook "Ocean Flavors and More" and the Florida Keys Seafood Festival held in January. Preference is given to students whose families work in the commercial fishing industry.
