Peary Court meeting set

Key West City Commissioner Jimmy Weekley will host a District 1 meeting about plans to redevelop Peary Court next month.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Key West Ferry Terminal off Caroline Street.

White Street Partners bought the Peary Court property last year for $35 million with plans to build 208 units of mostly single family homes.

The plans have yet to obtain approval from the Historic Architectural Review Commission, which postponed a vote March 10.

Water quality forums

Last Stand environmental group and the Everglades Law Center are holding free forums on water quality in April.

A forum is set for 6:30 p.m. April 16 at the Key Largo library, 101485 Overseas Hwy.

A Key West forum is set for 6:30 p.m. April 22 at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, 33 E. Quay Road, Truman Waterfront. Speakers include Bob Johnson of the South Florida Natural Resources Center for Everglades National Park.

City may support pot bills

City Commissioner Jimmy Weekley tonight will ask his fellow commissioners to formally support two proposed state bills seeking to legalize recreational marijuana.

The proposed resolution is on the agenda for tonight's 6 p.m. meeting at Old City Hall, 510 Greene St.

Sen. Dwight Bullard, D-Miami, has filed a bill that would allow people 21 and older to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and allow them to grow up to six plants. A similar bill was filed in the Florida House of Representatives earlier.

Florida voters this fall will decide whether to legalize medicinal marijuana.
