The City of Key West won the Ward Melville community improvement medal for cities of less than 50,000 population.

Leaders of the shrimp industry were calling for regulations that would halt the wanton destruction of small shrimp in the Tortugas fishing area. They wanted rules that would make it illegal to catch shrimp counting more than 47 to the pound.

A sightseeing service started linking Key West with Miami and Cypress Gardens. The tours left Miami at 9 a.m. to Key West where they were met by the Conch Train. After a two-hour tour and shopping, the plane would leave for Cypress Gardens, returning to Miami in the evening.

Les Trout announced the opening of a new delicatessen, featuring kosher food, at 923 White St.
