AT T honors Garcia for volunteer service

Officials from AT&T recently named Sergio Garcia as a winner of the company's prestigious President's Volunteer Service Award, which gives presidential recognition to U.S. citizens who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service each year.

There are three PVSA award levels: Gold for 500-plus hours of volunteer service; silver for 250-499 volunteer hours; and bronze for 100-249 hours.

Garcia, an AT&T network manager for Monroe County, received the Gold award. For 30 years, he has been a Key Largo volunteer firefighter, and was the fire chief for the Key Largo volunteer fire department for the last 15 years. He now is volunteering his time providing humanitarian assistance for the Department of Homeland Security.

First State promotes Hamilton

First State Bank of the Florida Keys recently announced the promotion of Peggy Hamilton to corporate administration officer/executive officer manager.

Hamilton joined First State in 2002 as administrative assistant in the bank's operations department, became executive administrative assistant later that year, and was promoted to executive assistant to the president in 2006.

Prior to joining First State Bank, she worked for the Syracuse City School District in Syracuse, N.Y., as an instructional technology specialist, and was involved in several projects with the American Museum of Natural History, including Reef Watch, which brought her to the Keys.
