MARATHON -- A 77-year-old local man was killed last Tuesday morning when his vehicle fell on him.

Manuel Perez, an Avenue H resident, reportedly used a forklift to pick up his truck. He was underneath working on it when it somehow slipped off the forklift, falling on top of him.

Family members found him and called for help. They used the forklift to lift the truck off Perez and began performing CPR.

He was taken to Fishermen's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A Michigan man who worked in a South Florida wildlife trafficking ring in 2011 was sentenced last week to five months in prison.

Joseph Franko, 35, pleaded guilty to illegal harvesting of wildlife, including a baby alligator and sea fans.

U.S. District Judge Jose Martinez allowed Franko to serve his time as close to Detroit as possible, records show.

After prison, Franko has to serve five months of house arrest and two years of probation.

Richard Perrin, 80, was sentenced to three years of probation and fined $15,000 for his role in the ring.
