John Dougherty Torano, 79, of Key West, Fla., passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014.

He was born Aug. 4, 1934 in Key West to the late Joseph A. and Sara E. (Averette) Torano.

John served in the U.S. Air Force and worked civil service as an electrician. He was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea and was an avid Marlins baseball fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma Torano and brothers Norman and Samuel Torano. He is survived by his sister Mary Avery of Pennellville, N.Y.; nephews Donald (Debra) Avery of Cape Coral, Fla., and David (Elaine) Avery of Vienna, W.V

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea. Burial will be in Southern Keys Cemetery on Big Coppitt Key, Fla.

The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
