County says 'no' to smoking
Raises for 51 workers

The Monroe County Commission approved raises for its lower-paid employees and adopted a policy Thursday to dissuade its employees from using tobacco products.

After Jan. 1, the county will not hire people who use tobacco products. Existing employees will be given until Jan. 1, 2016, to quit using tobacco products or have to pay $50-a-month surcharge, and a $50-a-month penalt...
