KEY WEST
Nonprofit offers HIV testing

In an community-wide outreach effort, free HIV testing is offered throughout Key West.

AIDS Help, Inc. offers free HIV testing at the Gordon Rollins Center, 1434 Kennedy Dr., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are strongly urged. Call 305-296-6196. Also, the nonprofit offers the testing from 1 to 6 p.m. Mondays at the Bourbon Street Pub, 724 Duval St.

AIDS Help staff remind the public that this testing is free, anonymous and confidential and "painless," since it doesn't involve needles. The test is done with a swab. A code or alias name is provided for each test recipient.

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County has two locations for free HIV testing: Gato Building, 1100 Simonton St., walk in Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, or 1-3 p.m.; appointments all other days/times at 305-809-5664 or 305-809-5665; and the Roosevelt Sands Center, 105 Olivia St., walk in Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
