John's spirit left Key West on April 28, 2014, to join his deceased island friends after a five year battle with cancer.

He was born on April 27, 1952 in Richmond, Kentucky to Mildred and John Brandenburg. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelors Degree in fine art. Shortly after, in 1973, he moved to Key West, his island home, and began his transformation from farm boy to talented creative artist, landscape designer, property manager and owner. John's privacy was important to him and many charities and friends benefitted from his generosity, anonymously. John's numerous friends always had his love and support to help them through.

Survivors include his mother Mildred, his brother, sister and nieces, all in Kentucky. He enjoyed his mother's visits which gave him the opportunity to show how much he loved Key West and his island family, including Alan, Edward, Michael, Jim, Jeffrey, John, Maggie, Mary, Pam, Seth, Troll, Jimmy and Wesley.

We express appreciation to Dr. Farris, Dr. Oldham, Hospice Nurse Hilary, Yvonne, Marie, all clinic staff, Hospice staff and his other devoted caregivers.

Interment will be in Southern Keys Cemetery, Big Coppitt Key. No service is planned at this time. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to Key West Wildlife Center and Florida Keys Children's Shelter.
