An annual hurricane preparedness workshop will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. May 27 at the Florida Keys Conference Center at The Islander Resort, Mile Marker 82.1 in Islamorada.
The workshop will feature Rick Knabb, director of the National Hurricane Center, who will discuss experimental products the center is introducing in 2015 and the debut of an experimental five-day Tropical Weather Outlook. Speakers also include representatives from the National Weather Service, Monroe County Emergency Management and Fair Insurance Rates for Monroe. A panel discussion by media representatives will include Max Mayfield, who retired as director of the NHC in 2007; former CNN Correspondent John Zarrella and local news experts Bill Becker; Robert Silk, David Goodhue; Jim Williams and Bill South, who coordinates social media outreach for the Key West weather office.
