The Florida Keys Mosquito Control board will decide today whether to purchase land for a new Lower Keys facility.
Since last year, the district has been in negotiations to buy a 1.3-acre lot on Big Coppitt Key for $729,000. If the board approves the purchase, the facility would house some two dozen employees and 50 work trucks.
Currently, the district's administration and Lower Keys operations staff are housed in a city-owned facility on College Road on Stock Island. The district's lease with the city expires Jan. 1, 2016, and the city is not renewing the lease.
The board meets at 3 p.m. today at its Marathon office, 503 107th St.
