Jack J. Appel 87, of Delray Beach, Fla., formally of Key West, passed away on Monday May 19, 2014 at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach after a short illness. Jack was born on July 2, 1926 in Key West, Fla. to Ruben and Lillie Appel and graduated from Key West High School in 1943. He was attending Georgia Tech University when he was called to serve his country in the Army during World War II. After the war, Jack graduated from the University of Miami, and returned to Key West. With his parents and brother, and later his brother, sister and wife, Jack operated Appels clothing store at the corner of Duval Street and Truman Avenue, until Jack, Milton and Eleanor retired in 1992. Jack's first love was his family, including his extended family of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jack's second love was fishing where he spent many Sunday afternoons with his friends and sons in the waters around Key West. He will be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother, son-in-law, and father.

Jack is survived by his soul mate and best friend, his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor, sons David and Steven, daughter Barbara, grandsons Jason, Ross and David Appel, Jared March, granddaughters Casey and Haley Appel, and Hilary March, brother Milton Appel, and sister Betty Caplan.

Funeral services will be held at the Congregation B'Nai Zion Synagogues on Wednesday, May 21, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Key West City Cemetery. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
