An annual hurricane preparedness workshop is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday featuring the director of the National Hurricane Center, Dr. Rick Knabb and a panel discussion by media representatives at the Florida Keys Conference Center, located at The Islander, a Guy Harvey Outpost, mile marker 82.1 oceanside.
Knabb will talk about experimental products the center is introducing in 2015 and the debut of an experimental five-day Tropical Weather Outlook. Also speaking is Key West National Weather Service, Monroe County Emergency Management and Fair Insurance Rates for Monroe. Scheduled panelists include WPLG hurricane expert Max Mayfield, who retired as director of the NHC in 2007; former CNN Correspondent John Zarrella; WWUS News Director Bill Becker; Robert Silk, staff writer of Free Press; David Goodhue, editor of the Reporter; Jim Williams, creator of Hurricane City.com; and Bill South, who coordinates social media outreach for the Key West weather office.
