Vito S. Giannola

Vito Giannola 74, a resident of Summerland Ky since 1987, passed away on Wednesday May 21, 2014, after a valiant battle against cancer. He was born February 13, 1940, in Detroit, to Salvatore and Carmella Giannola.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage; his sons Salvatore and Joseph (Maureen); and two grandsons, Giovanni and Antonio; his siblings Caroline Snooks, of Troy, Mich..; Cathy (Ted) Zielinski, of Armada, Mich., and James (Connie), of Warren, Mich.; as well as many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, beloved in-laws, and his trusted companion, Bo.

He was predeceased by his sister Mary and brother, baby Jimmy.

Vito served in both the Army and the Air Force. He retired the first time from Weyerhaeuser Corporation, in 1986, after 29 years of service. His second retirement came in 2005, after 17 years of service at the Venture Out Resort in Summerland Key, where he was known as the "godfather of the park."

Vito was an avid fisherman, golfer, and cook. He enjoyed feeding everyone in the neighborhood and his friends appreciated it even more. He was a loyal baseball and football fan and never missed an opportunity to watch the Detroit Tigers or the Lions.

A celebration of Vito's life will be held later in the year in Summerland Key. A second celebration will take place in August, in Warren, Mich..
