Capt. Walter E. Winney Jr. of the U.S. Army Logistical Support Facility presented the 10-year service award to Lester O. Serr.

Charles Major, head of the local NAACP, said a lawsuit filed in Miami without his knowledge would be dropped. He said the school integration had been "worked out with the school board and it was being done peacefully and that is the way we want it."

The USS Marlin, the Navy's smallest operational submarine, made its 2,000 dive. The small submarine was used as training target for student of the Fleet Sonar School.
