Fire station museum fruit tree celebrates 100 years

An "only in Key West" birthday party for the town's oldest and boldest mamey tree will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. June 7 at its home, the Key West Firehouse Museum, 1026 Grinnell St.

The "state champion" tree is turning 100 this year, according to museum curator Alex Vega. It was the grafting source of a huge number of similar trees throughout the country.
