A meeting for those interested in riding, volunteering or cheering others in this year's Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride is set for 6 p.m. June 12, at the Poinciana Royale assembly room, 1441 McCarthy Lane, off Duck Avenue.
The SMART Ride, a two-day, 165-mile bike ride from Miami to Key West, raises money for Florida agencies that assist people with HIV or AIDS. This year's ride is Nov. 14 and 15.
Started in 1993 with 200 people taking part, the ride has raised more than $5.3 million for nonprofits so far. Riders pay a $95 registration fee and commit to raise a minimum of $1,250 to donate. Every cent raised goes to the nonprofits, including those in Monroe County.
