Beatrice "Achi" Demeritt Hamilton, 82, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2014 at her home in Key West.
She was the youngest of 9 children born to Harold and Isabel Demeritt. She spoke fondly of growing up in Key West: in the water, on the tennis courts at Bay View Park, playing softball and basketball with her sisters and friends.
She graduated from Key West High School in 1950 and was very proud to be selected "Most Athletic" that year.
After a year at FSU, Bea worked at The Deli as a waitress. It was there that she met and subsequently married Bill Hamilton. They moved to Hawaii for several years, settling finally in Santa Clara, California. While raising her three children, Bea decided to finish her college education. It was a proud day for the whole family when she graduated with a BA from San Jose State University in 1975.
Upon retirement, Bea and Bill moved back "home" to Key West. Reconnecting with high school friends, family and small town life brought them joy. Bea came from a long line of Conchs and loved sharing stories about growing up in her beloved Key West.
Bea was preceded in death by her husband Bill.
She is survived by her children Patty (Alan), Roman, Robert (Sharon) Hamilton, and Jean (Rich) Hamilton-Buikema; grandchildren Nicki, Katie, Merial, Kenny and Mia; sister Lila Walker as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A sincere thank you to Kathy Burge for her loving care and to Gladys and Raul Del Rio, Heather at Island Home Health and Caregivers of the Keys for their help and support. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
