50 years ago:

Two retiring Monroe County schoolteachers were honored by the Key West Lions Club. They were Frances Cochrane with 36 years teaching and Gladys Pinder with 32 years.

Chaplain James S. Little of the Naval Station was the speaker at the Baccalaureate service for the 52 graduating seniors of Douglass High School.

Army Sgt. Richard R. Hall was a military policeman with the 2nd Armored Division. He was a 1954 graduate of Douglass High School.

Key West City Commission was working on an out-of-court agreement with the engineering firm over the construction of the city hall and Angela Street.

Norton Harris won his fifth City Golf Championship Tournament with a 72-hole total of 285.
