A Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary working group will hold two meetings this week in Key West to discuss possible management plan and fishing regulation changes for the waters off the Marquesas Keys.
The Marquesas Keys are one of the most pristine backcountry and flats fishing areas off the Lower Keys. The Ecosystem Protection group has been tasked with making recommendations dealing with coral reef habitats, which could include expanding or reconfiguring closed fishing areas.
The working group will meet all day starting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, 35 East Quay Road, Truman Waterfront.
The group will finalize its recommendations for all Keys waters when it meets July 8 and 9 in Marathon.
