50 YEARS AGO:

The Key West city manager reported that Florida Disposal Company was doing a miserable job of running the landfill on Stock Island.

The Florida State Board of Health announced a program to rid Key West of the Aedes Aegypti, also known as the "yellow fever" mosquito.

Capt. M.L. Hanks, retired Coast Guard Reserve, was elected president of the Key West chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars.
