The city will mark the 9th annual national "Dump the Pump Day," dedicated to promoting public transit by encouraging the public to ride the bus or use a bicycle instead of a car on Thursday.
"The more people give up their cars now and then, the more likely we are to reduce greenhouses gases," said city spokeswoman Alyson Crean. "And the city of Key West has set a goal of reducing carbon emissions by 15 percent by the year 2015."
Bus rides are not free on Thursday, as previously reported in The Citizen.
Bus fare is $2 for a standard one-way ticket in the city of Key West, and the Lower Keys shuttle is $4 one-way.
